The borax will destroy the exoskeleton and guts of the any ant that ingests it.
For protection of your house from ants, spatter used coffee grounds around the foundation of your house. The scent won't just repels ants but also moggies. You may draw a line using chalk or baby powder around your house. The talcum powder in these products will forestall further intrusion from ants.
