Jewelry Box Large with Wood Inlay using Red Narra Wood
If you know what to look for, it is not difficult to find a jewelry box large enough to store your precious jewelry collection. A large jewelry box helps you sort out and store your extensive collection in sets based on color, metal, or type of jewelry. It will be much simpler to find the pieces of jewelry you want to match your dress.
Ideally a box that big will not look out of place on your dresser only if it is a beautifully handcrafted piece with some evocative wood inlay work like marquetry done on it. Just the sheer beauty of the box should be able to attract attention away from its size! You could go for a box that is made entirely out of an exotic wood like the Red Narra if you are not on a shoestring budget. But if you are looking for something good but inexpensive, you can still get a beautifully carved box of white mahogany with some exquisite art work done on it. This will be priced less as it is made of a locally available wood and not some imported rare wood .
The Red Narra Wood (Pterocarpus indicus) is predominantly found in northern Australasia and Asia - Burma, Vietnam, Thailand, Indonesia, etc and it is revered as the National Tree of the Philippines. It is part of the Fabaceae or Leguminosae pea family. It is known by various names all over the world; the most common names are Andaman Redwood, Angsana, Sena, Sonokembang, Tnug, Kaibocca Wood, Burmese Rosewood, and Asana.
The same tree produces the breathtaking Amboyna Burl. The tree grows to a height of about 40 meters and has a trunk that measures 2 meters in diameter. All around the tree, you will on many occasions find buttresses extending outwardly and upwards. It is a very hard and heavy wood.
The hardwood in some places is somewhat purple in color but the most common colors are reddish tan, rose, and a deep orange red. At different angles, when held up to light, a piece of this wood reveals a marked change in appearance. When you submerge this wood in water, it turns a lovely opalescent color; this is due to a substance that is said to naturally occur in the wood cells.
Red Narra Wood is great for marquetry designs because of its diverse patterns and intense colors that make it an absolutely unique wood. An intricately carved wooden jewelry box with fascinating marquetry designs may turn out to be the best gift you've given yourself and your jewelry!
