Ways to Diminish Teen Acne by Taking Precautionary Measures
It's an exceptional young person who will not get acne during their adolescent years. A chief reason for acne in the teen years is hormonal modifications. To reduce acne you have to know why you get acne.
Acne results from plugged pores. An oily substance called sebum is developed by glands below the surface of the skin. This sebum rises to the skin's surface through pores.
But, your skin sheds old, dead cells which are replaced with new cells. A difficulty occurs when too much oil causes these old skin cells clump together and plug up the pores.
These accumulating masses of oily dead skin particles finally begin blocking or plugging up the pores a couple of weeks before they are large enough for you to detect. The sebum which is supposed to reach the surface of your skin has become blocked and starts to accumulate inside the pores and glands beneath your skin. Bacteria begins to multiply and an infection is under way.
As the sebum accumulates and the infection gets worse you start to see changes to your skin. Bumps start to enlarge until they become blackheads and whiteheads you know as pimples. You've got acne.
Why does acne appear to be most widespread through the teenage years?
As youngsters begin to mature the body begins generating new hormones. Both male and female adolescents produce the hormone testosterone. Testosterone results in a chemical reaction that causes the glands to generate more sebum. The rise in sebum causes the skin to become oily and particles of old skin cells clump together and start to block some of the pores.
After a handful of years, in the early twenties, the body is able to better regulate the reaction testosterone has on the glands so a reduced amount of sebum is created. As sebum production is reduced the amount of dead skin cells clumping together is also reduced. And acne goes away. While adults can still get acne, their skin is drier and less elastic. Hence, the adult acne treatment will be a little different from that for teenage acne.
What can young people do the cut back on the incidence of acne?
Keep your skin free from surplus oils and take away as many of the dead skin cells as practical. This normally calls for gentle washing twice a day. Mild, non-alkaline cleansers work best to keep the skin free from oil and keep bacteria at bay.
Eat nutritious foods. Avoid foods that you notice cause you face to feel oily. Those foods will not be good for you. Eat natural foods like vegetables, fruits, meats, whole grain breads, and dairy products. Avoid manufactured foods with lots of sugar or high fructose corn syrup.
Teenage years are often stressful. And stress results in added hormones that boost sebum flow. So, avoid stressful situations and work off your stress with physical exercises.
Avoid putting oily creams or cosmetics on your skin. Adding oils to your skin only intensifies the effect of natural sebum and further helps block the pores.
You really can significantly reduce the chances of getting acne by keeping your skin free from excessive oils.
