what is the best acne spot treatment

To be Able to Cure and Avoid Acne You Will Want to Recognize What Causes Acne

You really need to understand what causes acne in order to effectively prevent and deal with outbreaks of acne. It's an exceptional person who will not suffer at least one outbreak. But once your discover the reason for an acne outbreak you're able to take steps to prevent acne and deal effectively with further outbreaks.

Sometimes pores in your skin have a hair follicle and some do not have hair follicles. Connecting to these pores are sebaceous glands that make skin oil, or sebum. This oil helps keep the skin flexible. The sebum should find a way to flow though the pore to the surface of your skin and lubricate the skin.

What Does This Have to Do With Acne?

The simple explanation is that acne is a bacterial infection in a plugged pore. It typically displays itself as a blackhead or perhaps a whitehead. From time to time, the infection affects the surrounding skin causing it to become irritated and turn red.

The infection actually begins several days before it becomes evident. By the time you see a pimple or zit, the bacteria has multiplied and induced the skin irritation and inflammation to grow large enough to become evident.

What Causes Acne?

Now, what brings about that bacterial infection within a blocked up pore?

There is really a reason that acne starts at some stage in puberty as the body exhibits signs of adulthood. Part of the maturing process entails the production of hormones like testosterone. Testosterone is released in both young men and women. Those hormones represent a new stimulus that numerous organs all over the body must adjust to. And, it's the sebaceous glands just below the skin that interest us.

The sebaceous glands make sebum. This is the skin oil that lubricates the skin. It enters the pores and flows to the surface of the skin. When testosterone is originally released, the sebaceous glands are not able to deal with this stimulation. They become enlarged and start producing extra sebum.

An additional factor involves stress hormones. Maturing and testing your limits during adolescence is often a significant cause of stress. Stress hormones can also have an effect on the sebaceous glands to encourage increased sebum production.

While all this appears pretty bad, time is on your side. Usually during your early twenties you stop developing these outbreaks. The reason is that the sebaceous glands have adapted to the continuing stimulus of testosterone. The sebaceous glands return to their normal size and sebum manufacture also returns to normal. Your acne goes away by itself.

However, before this occurs these glands still produce excess sebum. The sebum flows to the surface of the skin. Dead skin cells on your skin become engulfed in this surplus sebum. You skin is always renewing itself and dead skin cells on the surface are lose and can be rubbed off. So, when the sebum encounters these small dead skin cells a glob is formed. These globs can obstruct the pores.

Here is where the difficulty begins. This combination of dead skin cells, skin bacteria and sebum form a clump that blocks a pore. As more sebum is produced it begins to back up because the pore's exit to the surface is plugged up. Bacteria begin to multiple in this favorable environment. Pretty soon they influence the surrounding skin and result in irritation.

If there is an opening to the exterior, this glob can oxidize and turn dark, giving you a blackhead. If the plug is deeper in the pore, the pore can be completely closed off from the outside air. The contents remain light in color. This is now a whitehead which is usually called a pimple or zit.

This knowledge about what brings about acne can help you take the appropriate measures to prevent or deal with breakouts of acne.
